Waterloo Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy: expecting parents holding a pair of baby socks

Pregnancy is a time of incredible transformation, physically, emotionally, and hormonally. At Sellars Chiropractic & Wellness Centre in Waterloo, we provide safe, gentle, and research-backed chiropractic care tailored to each stage of pregnancy. Our goal is to help you move comfortably, support your changing body, and prepare you for delivery.

Why choose chiropractic care during pregnancy?

Pregnancy changes posture, balance, and joint stability. These shifts often lead to lower back or pelvic pain, sciatica or leg discomfort, hip tightness, and postural strain from the baby’s growth.

Gentle chiropractic adjustments can help improve comfort and mobility, reduce pain and tension, balance the pelvis to create optimal space for baby positioning, and support easier movement during pregnancy and postpartum recovery.

Our approach

  • Webster Technique certified. Our chiropractors are specially trained in this pregnancy-safe technique to help align the pelvis and reduce sacral tension.
  • Trimester-specific care. We adapt adjustments for every stage, using specialized pregnancy pillows and gentle, low-force methods.
  • Whole-body wellness. We may also incorporate breathwork, stretches, and lifestyle recommendations to complement adjustments.

Questions about this treatment

How does a chiropractor help relieve pregnancy-related discomfort?

As your belly gets heavier, your spine drifts away from its neutral position, and your muscles and joints end up working harder than they’re used to. That’s often where poor posture and back, hip, or pelvic pain come from. I can help restore better posture, ease the strain on joints that are irritated or restricted, and work toward better pelvic alignment.

What might a prenatal chiropractic session look like?

Gentle, first and foremost. Hormones like relaxin already have your joints looser and your tissues more sensitive, so I match that with low-intensity adjustments. Your sessions could include precise adjustments along with slow, controlled movements - nothing forceful.

How will my treatment be customized to me?

Based on you, specifically - your trimester, whatever specific issues you’re dealing with (rib discomfort, pelvic imbalance, you name it), and what else is going on for you, whether that’s nausea, heartburn, or something else entirely.

What are round ligaments and how do they affect my pregnancy?

Round ligaments are actually the only ligaments in your body with contractile tissue, and they connect your uterus to the wall of your lower abdomen. As your uterus expands during pregnancy, tension on these ligaments can cause discomfort along the sides of your belly. It can also create mild constraint inside the uterus, which, in the later stages of pregnancy, can restrict how freely your growing baby is able to move.

What role does my sacrum play in my pregnancy?

Your uterosacral ligaments tether your uterus to your sacrum, at the back of your body. That sacrum can rotate slightly because of postural changes during pregnancy, or because of pre-existing issues like joint dysfunction or old injuries. When it rotates, it creates tension on those uterosacral ligaments, which can also cause torque - and a bit of constraint - inside the uterus.

Are there techniques that can encourage a breech baby to rotate head down?

Yes - if your baby is sitting bottom-first instead of head-down, I can help reduce constraint inside the uterus by safely adjusting your sacroiliac joints and easing tension in those round ligaments.

Sometimes even a small reduction in tension is enough to free up the space your baby needs to shift into a more natural birthing position.
