Pelvic floor physiotherapy at Sellars Chiropractic & Wellness Centre in Waterloo is provided by Christine Ecclestone, a Registered Physiotherapist and Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist.

What pelvic floor physiotherapy treats

Pelvic floor physiotherapy focuses on treatment involving both the internal and external pelvic muscles and joints. We treat women with pelvic health symptoms of all ages. The pelvic floor is a muscle group most of us do not have a great connection with. When the pelvic system is not functioning optimally, it can lead to issues such as pelvic pain, leakage, prolapse, sexual dysfunction and more. We are here to help you connect with your pelvic floor and eliminate symptoms that can be very socially debilitating.

What your treatment involves

The treatments involved in pelvic health care depend on the results of your initial assessment. Your condition is evaluated during a physical examination, and your physiotherapist forms a treatment plan that addresses your specific needs. That will typically include a combination of manual therapy, a home exercise program of stretching and strengthening, activity and lifestyle modification, changes to toileting habits, and more.

Symptoms we see

If you have any of the symptoms below, pelvic floor physiotherapy is likely to help.

  • A severe sense of urgency to void, with or without leakage
  • Increased frequency of urination
  • Incomplete emptying
  • Constipation
  • Haemorrhoids
  • Feelings of pressure in the vagina

  • Tailbone pain
  • Hip or low back pain
  • Diastasis recti abdominis
